Mrs. Carlson, principal of Milne Grove, received her bachelor's degree of education in 1996 from Eastern Illinois University in mathematics and biological sciences. She earned her master’s degree in administration from Northern Illinois University in 2003. Prior to being principal at Milne Grove, she taught 8th grade at Kelvin Grove for eight years. Mrs. Carlson taught reading, science, and math, coached girls and boys volleyball, and was the sponsor for the math team and yearbook club. During her last three years at Kelvin Grove, she was also the 8th grade coordinator.

Mrs. Carlson enjoys movies, traveling, swimming, camping and all sports. She moved back home to Coal City this summer and also gave birth to her second son, Alexander on July 8. Her son, Derek, is 3 years old. Mrs. Carlson's husband, Chris, teaches math and coaches wrestling at Homer Jr. High. This is her fourth year as principal at Milne Grove School.
