"Music Stars"

Is the Theme in Music this year. Students in all grades will be studying different areas of "Music Stars" including: Seasonal Stars, Christmas Stars, Composer Stars, Tone Color Stars (Instruments, Voice, etc.), Broadway Stars and many others.

We are so pleased that music classes have now returned to 40 minutes once each week instead of 30 minutes!

This year, students in Grades 2-8 who always come to music with their homework completed on time, bring homework to class on time, and follow the 6 Pillars of Character Counts, will have their name entered in a drawing to win one student ticket to go with the Kelvin Grove Chorus to see the Broadway production of "Mary Poppins" in Chicago this spring. There will be one winner at Milne Grove and one at Kelvin Grove. ONLY STUDENTS WHO ALWAYS COMPLETE THEIR MUSIC HOMEWORK AND FOLLOW MUSIC RULES WILL BE ENTERED IN THE DRAWING. (Students who win the drawing will only be allowed to go with parental consent.)

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM - Students in Grades K-5 and KG Chorus will be the "Christmas Stars" in the FREE Christmas Program "Christmas Time Is Here" on Tuesday, December 9 at 9:15am and 1:15pm in the Kelvin Grove old gym. Watch here for more details.

K-3 Milne Grove Music Classes- General Information

ALL K-8 Music students (& parents) are asked to SAVE all of the music worksheets and music until after 8th grade. We recommend that you put them in the order given to the students in a 3-ring binder at home for grades K-1.

Second & Third Grade are to keep their music worksheets in a 3-ring binder with:
-  their name on the outside FRONT COVER AND SIDE SPINE
-  5 tab dividers inside- labeled in this order :
             (1-Notes; 2- Theory; 3- History; 4- Classical Is Cool; 5 - Music)
-  10 sheets of notebook paper after Chapter 1 and 3
-   a sharpened pencil with eraser in the folder

2nd & 3rd Grade students will have a music worksheet to do as homework every week. Many of the answer cues will be found on the worksheet or below on this web site (scroll down to the section covering the information on the worksheet). All worksheets will be due the next week during music.

If the child forgets or doesn’t have the paper, they will not receive a sticker for the day and the paper will have a 0 in the grade book. Music grades are S, S-, or N.  Please do not ask for replacements of lost papers. We are trying to teach the students to be responsible in doing their work and turning it in on time.  Completed worksheets will be graded and returned to put in their music folder in the music classroom.

At the end of the year, the music folders will go home and are to be SAVED until 8th grade. Students may take their music folders home any time, but are responsible for returning them to school by the next music class time. Students in 2nd & 3rd Grade may leave the binder in the music room at school or take the binder home as long as they bring it back for each music class. They are building a music book/portfolio. They will be able to play the music selections each year. All Grades 2-5 students may earn music stickers for their  sticker sheet for completed music assignments. Students in Grades 2- 5 with the most stickers by the end of March will receive a coupon for a special music drawing to be held. 6-8 students completing Music Exploratory assignments will also be given a coupon for a special music drawing.

K-1 students will occasionally be bringing home music worksheets done during music classes where they have earned music stickers. K-1 students should keep their music worksheets in a folder at home for future years (extra credit grades).

MG  Grades 2 & 3 Class Assignments by Date Assignment Is Due

                                            MUSIC WORKSHEET INFORMATION
A LINE NOTE has a line going through the center of the note head (the round circle part of the note)

A SPACE NOTE has a line above and below the note head (the circle part of the note)

NOTES ARE Named from the Bottom Up:
Treble/G Clef Lines = EGBDF (
Every Good Bunny Does Flops)
Treble/G Clef Spaces = FACE

Bass/F Clef Lines = GBDFA (Good Bunnies Do Flops Always)
Bass/F Clef Spaces = ACEG (All Cars Eat Gas)

Notes above or below the Staff:

Above the staff start with the top line note name and each space, line thereafter is the alphabet going FORWARD (A B C D E F G A B C...) (example: Treble clef top line is F; if the note written is on the first space above F, you would say F line, G space, then A on the top short ledger line above G)

Below the staff - the notes go down: start with the bottom line and say the music alphabet backwards (example: Treble clef bottom line is E; the note is on the line below the staff; say E then the space below is D, the short ledger line below D is C)
