The Kelvin
Grove Music Technology Lab History 1997 to Present: |
1997 - Mrs. Randolph (D91 music/chorus teacher) started teaching
here with one piano, CD player, music books and a few Orff instruments at
each building (Milne & Kelvin Grove), her marimba and a borrowed
computer. Over the next few years she added other melodic percussion
instruments and several borrowed electric pianos for the music students to
use in music. Gradually parents started donating old MAC computers and
eventually some old PCs. With board approval, she designed a plan to
build a music technology lab one computer at a time through donations,
grants, and fund-raising efforts.
The
Kelvin Grove students are so very excited to be using our finished Kelvin
Grove Music Technology Lab that was started in 1997 and finished in May of
2010! We have expanded from 1 borrowed computer to 28 MIDI computer stations,
5 organs, and one Teacher MIDI Computer station. We now have 5 electric piano stations
at Milne Grove School (Thanks to Joliet Junior College for donating
their old computers for us to upgrade. THANK YOU SO MUCH to
everyone who donated money, helped raise funds, worked TAG Days, sold
Valucards, and many other ways!!! You made a BIG difference! We have now
finished the Kelvin Grove Lab after 13 years! We now need to maintain it
and finish the Milne Grove Lab.

A
VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Mrs. Michele Wilson, our current Technology
Director and the many technicians of Prairie Technology our our Technology
contractor for updating and maintaining our current lab. A SPECIAL THANK
YOU to Mr. Jim Pierson who originally helped set-up the music room and
currently maintains the physical part of the lab. We couldn't have our lab
without all of your help!
Thanks goes to our past
Music Technology Director, Mr. Doug Ahlfield, who originally installed software, set-up, wired, etc. all
of the computers! They worked
the summers 2003 and 2004 working on the music lab. Thanks to Mr. Ahlfield, who found
Joliet Junior College was getting rid of their old computers. He made
arrangements for us to get them FREE. He suggested we should use our music
technology money to upgrade the old computers and have more for our money.
Instead of purchasing only three new computers – from upgrading
the JJC computers we now have 28 computers!! Thanks to our past
Technology Director, Mr. Ken Jocius, for all of his hard work. |
| ANOTHER
SPECIAL THANKS to SAM's Club (who gave us our first grant!), Best Buy, Mary Heath Foundation,
PROTECH Automation, and the Kelvin Grove Chorus parents for purchasing
brand
new, state of the art computers with Music Ace Maestro, Sibelius, Musition,
Auralia, Instruments, Compass, Band-In-A-Box, Smart Music, The
Nutcracker, and other software
that will track individual student progress, allow students to sing/play music and be followed by
accompaniments which can be accessed from school and home by any of our
District # 91 students whose families wish to purchase these programs.
These computers will allow Exploratory students to edit and mix
videos they create, music they have composed, burn to DVD or CD, etc. and
so much more. |
