Math- Remember the students are timed 2 1/2 minutes to complete the 25 facts.  It is important that the students are practicing their math facts each night.  Please have the students bring back their math facts in the baggies.  The students practice with one another daily.  This week the students will learn to: add two digit numbers using dimes and pennies, addition facts with sums of 15, 16, 17, and 18, and measuring to the nearest foot.  The students will have a fact and skills test on Wednesday, December 19th.  At home please practice counting money using dimes, nickels and pennies.  This is difficult for many students.

Language/Spelling-   At the start of the week we took 2 days and completed the theme test.  The students were tested on phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and grammar.  You will get a copy of the front cover of the theme test on Friday.  This was taken for a grade.  We started Johnny Applessed on Thursday.  The focus skill for the week is details and the focus strategy is creating mental images.  The grammar skill for this week is proper nouns.  This week we will be focusing on days of the week.  The vocabulary words are: frontier, nearby, orchards, survive, tame, wild, sleep, call, country, rain, and bag.  The reading verification will be sent home on Monday and needs to be returned on Tuesday.  The comprehension and vocabulary test will be on Wednesday, December 19th.  The spelling words will  have the /ear/ sound spelled ear or eer.  The spelling words are: pioneers, cheers, clearing, hear, nearby, year, beard, reindeer, steer, peer, remark, alarm, sleep, country, and rain.  The spelling test is Wednesday, December 19th.

Science-   The students have learned about the land habitats; tundra, forests, rainforests, and deserts.  Next, they will be learning about the different water habitats ponds and oceans.  There will be many hand-on activities to go along with this unit.

Social Studies/Geography- We will continue with the next lessons in social studies. In these lessons the students will learn about using the land and different ways they use water in everyday life.   The first 2 questions in geography are completed as a class.  The remaining 4 questions are to be done for homework.  These are due the following Friday.
