Math

This week in math the students will learn to: draw a number line, draw
line segments to the nearest inch, locate points on a number line; make
polygons on a geoboard, identify the angles of a polygon; add three or more
single-digit numbers, identify the associative property of addition; and write
fractions using fraction notation.
Reading/Language Arts -
On Tuesday, we will read From Seed to Plant. The
Focus Skill for this week is Details. Students will be completing
worksheets in their workbooks independently and these pages will be collected at
the end of the story and taken for a grade. Reading verification
slips will be sent home on Wednesday, January 7th. Please sign and return
on Thursday. The comprehension test will be on Friday, January 9th.
The students will take this test independently and this test
will be taken for a grade.
The vocabulary words are: beautiful, nutrition, protects, ripens, streams.
High frequency words are: air, different, food, light, water.
Spelling
- The students will recognize the letter patterns sound. The spelling test will be on
Friday, January 9th.
Please remember to practice the 2 sentences that will also be on the test.
This weeks words are: sprout, stream, through, strong, strap, springtime, spray, throat, three, ostrich, pioneers, clearing, air, different, light.
Science
- We will continue our unit "Homes for Living Things." In Lesson
3, students will identify and describe different kinds of water environments and
habitats. Students will also provide examples of animals meeting their
needs in different land habitats. Students will use process skills to
communicate, classify, observe, and compare. We will discuss vocabulary
words such as pond and ocean.
Social
Studies - In January, we will begin learning about the Potawatomi.
Students will learn about the roles of the Potawatomi men and women, their
homes, their clothing, and the foods they ate.
Geography - On Friday, we will go over the last four questions from Week Fourteen and answer questions one and two for Week Fifteen.
Music
- Music homework is due every Monday for Mrs. Randolph.
