  Title I Parent Training Night

February 7th from 6:30PM-7:40 PM

at Milne Grove

 At our Title I Parent Training we would like to show you some of the things we do every day to help students build reading skills. We hope you can attend!

Letters were sent home with your child on Wednesday, January 25. Please sign and send the RSVP portion of the letter back to school. Thank you!

 

Tip of the Week.....  

Rainbow Words

(Can be used with spelling, sight and vocabulary words)

  Have your child pick a crayon or marker; any color . Tell your child a word and have your child write the word using the crayon or marker. Repeat above steps using two other different colored crayons or markers.

Please remember to read with your child as often as you can. 

 

THIS   WEEK'S   ACTIVITIES  

This year we will  use our bright link (the interactive white board) to work on many of our activities. Below are the skills we will be working on this week.  

First Grade Happenings:

PHONICS: Words with a long 'i' silent e pattern (words like cake)

VOCABULARY WORDS: follow, sudden, found, way, these, four, under, full, hungry, were (We will continue to review past words as well)

STORY: Follow Me

COMPREHENSION: Identifying the characters and setting of a story 

 

Second Grade Happenings:  

PHONICS:  Words with 'ar' -- (words like start). We will continue to review short/long vowel patterns in words

VOCABULARY WORDS: folk tale, tattered, delight, tumbled, leather, midnight

STORY: The Big Pumpkin

COMPREHENSION:  Sequencing events in a story; compare/contrast two stories

 

Third Grade Happenings:    

Beginning this week we will be focusing on preparing for the ISAT tests. We will not have a weekly story, vocabulary list or comprehension skill. Instead, we will be using a variety of different texts (both fiction and nonfiction) and we will be practing reading the test and reviewing the different strategies we have learned that will help us to answer the questions about the passage. I will be working with the students in their regular classroom during the next few weeks on ISAT preparation.
