The
CyberLibrary and the LRC
2011-2012 School Year
The KG and MG Learning Resource Centers are pleased to
announce that the 2011-12 program is now open! Read to Succeed
is a free educational program from Six Flags and Discovery
Education that inspires K-6 students to engage in recreational
reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational,
non-school-related reading are eligible to earn a free
admission ticket to a participating Six Flags theme park.
Students in grades K-6 have recently been given a reading log
and parent/guardian letter from the Learning Resource Centers.
Students who successfully complete a reading log and turn it
in to the LRC by February 9 can earn a FREE TICKET to Six
Flags Great America.
What's a
CyberLibrary? You're looking at it! It's the LRC's
collection of online resources (see menu to the right) and
tidbits designed to enhance the curriculum and needs of the
district student, staff and community.
The
Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides print materials and
electronic tools to navigate, understand and
enjoy the technologies of this century. Here's a brief
overview of the technology that D91 provides - peek
here. Student, staff and community support is provided via a
fully-staffed library area and a 36-station computer lab. In
addition to the library collection, the LRC provides
audiobooks, online databases and video supplements, serving
students, staff and community alike. Parents/guardians and
community members are invited to check out the new Parent
Collection and the Adult Paperback Exchange.
The LRC
provides skills instruction that are outlined in the LRC
Student Expectations, and provides numerous reading incentives,
literacy games, and educational programming provided
throughout the school year. The LRC partners with school
groups and collaborates with classroom teachers to provide
excellence in student services. We're a bustling, busy
learning center that caters to the needs of our student
population. We don't "shusshhhh" a lot. Forgive us if we're a little loud sometimes, but
you can count on the fact that there is always some learning
going on - even if it looks like we're having "too much
fun"! As
always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any
questions, concerns, or comments - or just to say hello! :)
