School Counselor - Kelvin Grove
Duties
Counsel students who develop difficulties in the areas of educational, personal, or social needs. Completes reports and assessments and/or other evaluation tools for initial case studies, re-evaluations and problem-solving team. Collects and analyzes data for student progress. Observes students in the learning environment as requested. Meets with students individually and in small groups. Provide tier 1 SEL instruction in the classroom for fourth and fifth grade students. Communicates with and supports guardians as needed. Assists in crisis intervention as requested. Assists teachers as a consultant regarding appropriate behavioral interventions and strategies for each tier. Participates in RTI/MTSS team meetings. Knowledgeable about community and mental health resources available to families outside of the school setting. Completes required paperwork in a timely manner. Facilitates and completes eligibility components as required by IDEA/504 Reviews, researches, and recommends scientifically based interventions. Other duties as assigned by the administration aligned to the purpose and function of this position.
Qualifications
Candidate must hold a valid professional educators license in the State of Illinois with school social work endorsement.

DUTIES:
- Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
- Uses appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
- Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads.
- Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
- Meets and instructs classes in the locations and at the time designated.
- Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
- Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Hours: 12-15 hours per week on average
Starting Pay- $16.00/hr
This position works between our Crest Hill (morning) and Lockport (afternoon) sites to support parents, students, and the classroom teacher. Most of the hours will be worked during the day between 8:30am and 3:00pm during preschool class times. In addition, the liaison will work one evening a month at the parent education or family fun evenings.
Paraprofessional and/or substitute licensure is required; we are willing to assist candidates to obtain licensure. Bilingual applicants will receive priority.
