MAP Testing and Chromebook Exchange Dear KG Parents and Guardians, Kelvin Grove is still moving forward with the blended learning model (students in-person two days per week) starting on Monday, January 11, 2021. Your child(ren)'s learning group (Green=Mon & Thur, Gold=Tue & Fri, White=Remote, or Blue=four days in-person) was sent out via ParentSquare on December 15th. If your child will be attending school in-person, then parents are reminded to complete the health screening form in ParentSquare each time they are scheduled to be in the building or your child will not be allowed entrance into the building until it's submitted. The district received its shipment of new Chromebooks that will be distributed to students next week. Earlier today, you would have received a new Technology User Agreement through ParentSquare for your signature. Each parent needs to provide a signature by this Friday on the document. All students at KG, excluding students in LASEC programs, will be issued a new device. LASEC students received a new device at the beginning of the year. Any District 91 issued Chromebook that was previously loaned out will need to be brought to school next week to be exchanged. Students need to bring the device and charger to their homeroom class. Remote students will receive/exchange their Chromebook during MAP testing next week. Blended students will need to bring the new device with them to school each day; the devices will no longer remain at school in carts. It is important that chromebooks be charged the night before and come to school with a fully charged battery. All students will be participating in the district MAP assessment next week, starting January 11th. For blended students, they will be taking the assessment in school during their math and English language arts classes. Remote students (White Learning Group) will take the assessments at school on Wednesday, January 13th and Wednesday, January 20th. Remote students will enter and exit school through door #4 which is located in the south end of the building by the flag pole. Below is the testing schedule: January 13, 2021 8:30 am Arrival of remote students through door #4 8:30-9:00 am Exchange Chromebooks 9:00-10:30 MAP Test #1 (Reading) 10:30-10:45 am Students return home for lunch 12:30-12:45 pm Students return to school 1:00-2:30 pm MAP Test #2 (Math) 2:30 pm Students return home January 20, 2021 8:30-8:45 am Arrival of remote students through door #4 9:00-10:30 am MAP Test #3 (Language) 10:30-10:45 am Students return home for remainder of day, no testing in the afternoon. The staff are very excited to have students in the building again. We hope to have a strong start to the new year and have an even better finish. If you have questions regarding about the MAP testing or Chromebook exchange, please contact me via email, jjennings@d91.net or via phone, 815-838-0737 ext 1105. Sincerely, John Jennings Principal |

Restart of Blended Learning January 11, 2021 Dear KG Families, The staff are thrilled about kids starting in-person learning next week but know it's been awhile since kids have been in the building. For some students, this will be their first time at Kelvin Grove this school year. Some important reminders as we start our blended learning schedule next week include:
The communication between home and school continues to be an important tool in making this year a success. Please don't hesitate to contact teachers, the office, or me if you have any questions about this new mode of learning. Sincerely, John Jennings Principal |
The IESA needs your support!
As like several organizations and companies across the state, the Illinois Elementary School Association is suffering from a crippling financial loss in revenue due to the impact of COVID-19. The IESA is not a state agency and do not receive any funds from the state of Illinois. The majority of their revenue comes from attendance at state series sporting events. Since COVID-19 took over in March, the IESA has not been able to host any regional, sectional, or state championships. This organization that oversees junior high school sports and activities in the state of Illinois are concerned about their financial future and their ability to support organized athletics for Illinois schools. The IESA hopes to raise at least $500,000 on their “Campaign to Save the IESA” Go Fund Me Charity page. We ask that you consider making a donation if you've had children that have played junior high athletics at KG. The IESA plays a major role in our school's ability to provide quality extra-curricular opportunities for our students and keeps the dream of sports alive in the state of Illinois. Anyone can make a tax deductible donation by going to the IESA Go Fund Me page. You can access that page by clicking on this link: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/the-campaign-to-save-iesa |

Kelvin Grove to Begin Remote Learning on Thursday, November 12
John Jennings • 6 days ago • Wednesday, Nov 11 at 7:30 AM • Lockport School District 91 Dear D91 Parents and Guardians, The administrative team has made the decision to begin remote learning at Kelvin Grove School starting this week on Thursday, November 12. All students at KG, including LASEC students housed at Kelvin Grove, will be on remote learning until further notice. The district's inability to properly staff all of the classrooms within the building was the determining factor in the decision making process. This does not affect students at Milne Grove School. Milne Grove will continue with blended learning this week on Thursday and Friday. All District 91 students will begin remote instruction on Monday, November 16th as previously determined. There are no classes scheduled for tomorrow due to a scheduled teachers' institute day and in observance of Veteran's Day. The district will have its regularly scheduled meal pick up tomorrow from 11:30 am-12:30 pm at both schools. On Thursday and Friday this week, students at Kelvin Grove will observe the same class schedule for remote learning as they had during the first month of school. Teachers will continue to provide instruction using Google Meet and Google Classroom. As previously mentioned, all D91 students will be remote learning on Monday, November 16. The classroom teachers will provide their class schedules to inform students and parents when to be logged into their virtual classrooms. We understand this sudden change in plans will have numerous effects on our families, including securing child care. Our Roadmap to Reopening plan (pg 18) detailed the possibility of having to switch to remote learning for short periods of time when there is substantial community spread of the virus. Unfortunately, our Lockport community is being heavily affected at this time. Please continue to keep your families safe by continuing to practice the only ways known to mitigate the spread of the virus including: limiting the number of people in your social circles and unnecessary travel, wearing a two-ply facial covering, sanitizing of hands and frequently touched surfaces, and proper social distancing of six feet or more between all people. The district's goal remains to provide a quality education for our students, and we hope to return to in-person learning soon when conditions will allow. Adaptive Pause beginning November 16, 2020
Donna Gray • 8 days ago • Monday, Nov 9 at 4:00 PM • Lockport School District 91 November 9, 2020 Dear D91 Families, From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the faculty and staff of Lockport School District 91 have strived to follow the guidance of the health experts while providing learning options that prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff. Since the beginning of the school year, we have closely monitored both internal and external metrics on a daily basis. Over the past month, we have witnessed a significant and concerning rise in the COVID-19 positivity rate locally and across the state. Initially, when the community positivity rates increased, we were reassured that our internal positivity rates remained very low. However, over the weekend we have seen a sharp increase in the number of students and staff needing to quarantine. While we still have no evidence of person to person transmission within our schools, this recent development has required that we re-examine whether the blended model can remain a viable option. Our school community believes in the power of in-person learning, and our goal has always been to continue the blended learning model for as long as we could do so in a safe manner. The prevalence of COVID-19 in our zip code, the increases in hospital utilization in our region, and the number of staff and students quarantining due to symptoms and/or suspected contact work together to create a concerning set of circumstances. After careful review and consideration, we have decided that both Milne and Kelvin Grove will observe an adaptive pause beginning Monday, November 16. This means that in-person attendance will be suspended and all students will engage in remote learning through the winter break or until our community positivity rates fall to an acceptable level. The district will continue to provide the option of attending in person until Friday, November 13. for those who need time to make other arrangements. Families who are able may begin full remote learning as soon as tomorrow without penalty. If we could somehow ensure the safety of our staff and students despite the spread in the larger community, such a step might not be necessary. Until we know the effect of the impending flu season, holiday gatherings, and possible travel, it is hard to predict how long such measures will be necessary. However, we are hopeful that mitigation will occur outside of our walls and permit students to reenter the learning environments that are so crucial to their success. Please know that this decision was not an easy one to make, but it is necessary as we collectively address the serious risks of this pandemic. Failing to take action could put students and staff at risk and that is a chance we cannot afford to take. We ask for your cooperation in adhering to the guidelines of wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, washing/sanitizing your hands often, and limiting your social circle. We thank you for your continued support. The amazing work you are doing to support your children this school year has not gone unnoticed. Our school community is strong, and we will get through this together through care and cooperation. Sincerely, Donna Gray Superintendent of Schools |

Illinois Report Card for 2020 released by ISBE
2 files • John Jennings • 15 days ago • Monday, Nov 2 at 6:00 PM • Lockport School District 91 Dear D91 Parents and Guardians: Each year the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) releases a comprehensive report called the Illinois Report Card on each school district and building in the state of Illinois. Information in the release includes data on student demographics, finances, instructional setting, and student achievement on state mandated assessments. Each school is given a summative rating designation based upon this information contained in the report of either: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted Support, or Comprehensive Support. Due to COVID-19, students did not take the state mandated assessments in the spring. As a result of not having any new student achievement data, it was determined by ISBE that each school building would retain their summative designation from the previous school year. Both Milne Grove and Kelvin Grove were designated as Commendable schools for the 2020 school year. As part of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, a copy of the Illinois Report Card for each school must be made available for parents to view. In compliance with this part of the legislation, a copy of the 2020 Illinois Report Card for Milne Grove and Kelvin Grove are attached to this message. If you wish to have a printed copy of the report, they are available in the main offices at both schools. Sincerely, The D91 Administration |
